Forests for the Future
Enjoy a series of free workshops for families, aimed at children 7+, that explore different climate change themes through discovery, crafts and problem-solving. There will be a different theme each day.
Each workshop has three activities plus the opportunity to make a family pledge. There’s space for six families per workshop, and you will be paired with another family to rotate around the activities.
Tuesday 26 October, Adapting our Future Forests
Trees for the future quiz in the tree collection
Designing and making a model of forest adapted to climate change
Create Japanese leaf prints (hapa zome) using leaves from trees adapted to our future climate
Wednesday 27 October, Growing our forests
Seed scavenger hunt out in the tree collection
Seed viability, preparation and sowing to grow at home
Challenge: where could we plant trees to help with the impacts of climate change?
Make a family pledge about how you can reduce your carbon emissions
Thursday 28 October, Biodiversity and habitat restoration
Wildlife survey out in the tree collection
Designing and building invertebrate homes
Making a willow bird feeder
Cost: Free (after admission)
Times: There will be four workshops running each day from:
10:00 – 10:45
11:15 – 12:00
13:00 – 13:45
14:15 – 15:00
Booking is essential. Email the learning team with the date and time you’d like to book and the number of adults and children (with ages) attending.
