Fly, Flutter and Squeak
Next dates
Sorry, there are no future dates available
You are invited to join Cirencester Wildlife Group at the Roman Amphitheatre on Saturday 16th June for fly, flutter and squeak – an evening in the company of bats, moths and small mammals.
Saturday 16th June
8pm - 11pm
FLY! ~ We’ll be using bat detectors to hear bat calls and identify the different species – last year we saw Common and Soprano pipistrelle, Noctule and Serotine bats.
FLUTTER! ~ Thanks to our friends at the Gloucestershire Naturalists Society, a light trap will be set up to attract night-time flying insects and moths. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to experience the brightly coloured world of the night.
SQUEAK! ~ Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust will be using Longworth traps to capture small mammals in the long grass, this is an excellent opportunity to see species such as wood mice, yellow-necked mice, bank voles and shrews.
Please note, if the weather is wet or cold the event is likely to be cancelled. Bats can be reluctant to emerge when it’s raining or too cold and it’s unlikely that there will be many moths about too, it's not just us who are put off by the weather!
ADVANCE BOOKING REQUIRED: Please let us know if you'll be attending the event by emailing wildciren@gmail.com, as places are limited. A £2.00 donation per person towards the Cirencester Wildlife Group is also requested.
Meeting place: main entrance to the Roman Amphitheatre on Cotswold Avenue.
