Nicola Price has recently resigned from a 13 year teaching career, and retrained as a Freelance Social Media Manager with Digital Mums. During this time she set up an online Community Campaign called Little Cotswolds which showcases some of Nicola's gorgeous photography (she is a professional photographer specialising in newborns, babies and children), alongside tips for local parents of great places to eat and things to do around the Cotswolds. Read on for some of Nicola's Cotswold and Cirencester family favourites.

Hi Nicola, thank you for taking the time to tell us a bit more about your family's favourite things around Cirencester and the Cotswolds.
It's often said that this area is one of the best in the UK for raising a family, but what do you love most about bringing up a family in the Cotswolds?
I have lived in Cirencester, Stroud and Cheltenham since graduating from University 15 years ago so really feel like the Cotswolds is very much my home and we’ve now settled just outside of Cirencester. I am originally from Northern Ireland so I guess I am not your typical Cotswold resident!
The thing I love most about bringing up a family in the area is that there is so much green space, room to move around and explore, as well as lots of great pubs, cafes, parks and activities. I always feel like I’m on holiday (which is my absolute favourite thing to do!) when we visit different villages and towns. We do live in a very rural area but we also have larger towns close by so I know I can still go shopping easily!
We've been finding lots of local groups for preschoolers recently, but where would you take your baby and toddler for a bit of singing and story telling?
There are some fantastic baby and toddler groups I’ve visited and my absolute favourite is Playcircle every Wednesday morning in Daglingworth Village Hall. There is story telling, singing, musical instruments, so many sensory toys and activities. It is such a welcoming group, and that’s really what I am looking for when I visit a group.
We love seeing your social shares of you getting out and about with your kids. What are your child-friendly hotspots?
I really love the Cotswold Farm Park . There is so much to see and do. My little boy loves the tractors and the maze is hilarious. It is also running some Messy Play sessions by Messy Kingdom at the moment which is such a great idea as you can stay and use all of the parks facilities after the session.
I do like getting out and about, so we often go to the Cotswold Wildlife Park near Burford. We have an annual pass and it is really good value, as we often just go for a couple of hours. I love going to the local parks in Cirencester, so we have been using the Cirencester Rocks mobile app to literally visit each one! Our new favourite is St Michael’s Park but equally we like walking through Cirencester Park as well. A recent discovery is Bibury Trout Farm which was an absolute hit with our toddler, although you do need to keep them close by! It is amazing, and the park is fantastic. We spent hours playing there. A real gem of an activity for the family.
Another talent of yours is photography? Where do you enjoy taking photos in the area?
My new favourite place to photograph the kids is Batsford Arboretum which is so beautiful and peaceful. It is also great for exploring with a toddler. I also love Westonbirt Arboretum where I am planning on meeting some families for their outdoor portrait sessions this summer. I have a lot of photographs from Westonbirt as we used to go every day when I lived in Nailsworth for a walk with the baby. Both have fantastic facilities for little ones including some great play parks.
We live near to South Cerney so I do a lot of photoshoots here as well. For my newborn clients, I stay in the warmth of my home studio but I am just about to launch at home sessions for new parents so I come to you. I have just found out I have won 7 awards with the Guild of Photographers so I am excited to grow my business even further in and around the Cotswolds.
What is Cirencester missing that you think would be great for families?
I think there is a real gap for a more child-oriented cafe where parents can go with baby, toddlers and pre-schoolers and there are lots of toys, sensory activities, a good selection of food for us and our little ones….that is also quite cool! There are some great ones in Bristol I had been too that have so much going on. I have yet to find one in and around Cirencester.
What events are you looking forward to going to over the Summer?
The Cotswold Show & Food Festival is coming up soon on 7th & 8th July in the grounds of Cirencester Park. There are a lot of activities for families and it will be our first time going this year, so excited to see what it is like. We are regulars at the Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford and have had both newborns while it has been on. We literally live right next to it so no escaping, and ear defenders are the best things ever! This year we have tickets so my husband will take our eldest along. It really is a fantastic event. I will be at school but not for much longer!
Thanks so much for taking the time to tell us about your family Rocking Cirencester - Where can we find out more about you and your family are up to?
